i spent most of 2021 trying to finish an album i had spent the past 3 years working on. i finished december 12th. i felt both emotionally drained and creatively free. the songs i made in the following weeks reflected that. my first instinct was to put out the songs as soon as i'd made them. but i felt i'd be dishonoring myself to release anything before the "debut" i'd worked so hard to finish. I told myself i'd wait until *the* album came out. and so i did, and then it didn't. and at a certain point the weight that lifted from my shoulders when i turned the album in stopped making me feel less heavy. i still had to live with myself. the music i'd made out of self-expression became self-exploitive. i didn't want to share it with anyone. i just wanted to be left alone.
